Thank you Patty Johnson for volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter as Data Entry and Office Support volunteer. We asked Patty a few questions about why she volunteers for the Association.

How long have you been volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association? 1-1/2 years.

Why do you volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association? My mother, who passed away in January 2019, lived in N.C. and had Alzheimer’s disease. I could not be there to help her, but I could honor her by volunteering at the local chapter. My father also had dementia and currently my mother-in-law suffers from Alzheimer’s. My skill set is computers and I actually enjoy doing the “boring” stuff on computers.

What is most rewarding about volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association? I love listening to the social workers talking to caregivers and patients. They are so supportive and compassionate. I do the “boring” computer stuff so they can do the heavy lifting. Plus, working with social workers is such a wonderful work atmosphere. They are always so kind and thankful for the little things I do.

Do you volunteer in honor of a loved one who was/is affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia? Yes. my mother, father and mother-in-law. (Rose and George Pious. Doreen Johnson).
