Both Terri and Eric have personal experiences with Alzheimer’s, having served as caregivers for loved-ones with the disease.
Eric is System Director of Business Development for Premier Health. He has participated in several Chapter events and fundraisers over the last few years, and chaired the annual Reason to Hope fundraising breakfast on April 5.
“Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease that does not discriminate. It completely consumes the lives and well-being of those living with it and their caregivers,” Eric says. “It was painful for my family to watch my Mom deteriorate.”
Yet, Eric wants everyone living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers to remember that you are not alone even though at times it may feel that way. “Remember that the Alzheimer’s Association Helpline is there for you 24/7 to help with any issue not matter how routine or serious.
Terri is the local Wells Fargo Market Manager for the Ohio Middle Market Banking Group located in Dayton. She has previously served on the Alzheimer’s Chapter’s Finance Committee and on fundraising committees for the Walk To End Alzheimer’s. She will serve as Chair of the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, scheduled for Oct. 7.
“My mother, like her oldest sister, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in her mid-seventies. She passed away seven years ago at the age of 90. I lost my father, her primary caregiver for too many years, before I lost my mother. I have no doubt that the hours and stress of his unpaid caregiver role contributed to his early passing,” Terri says.
“I am involved in this cause because the need to end this horrible disease is real, necessary and urgent. With every dollar we raise, we are one step closer to finding that first survivor of Alzheimer’s.”
